WHAT IS POSAA?

The Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association of Australia Inc (POSAA) was formed in 1998. It is a national support and advocacy group for PCOS women, their partners and families.

HOW POSAA OPERATES

It is overseen and run by the national committee, together with state delegates. All members are volunteers; and as such juggle full-time jobs, family responsibilities and POSAA commitments.

CORE 5 YEAR GOALS

Reach out to 7 out of 10 women with PCOS.

Make contact with all health professionals that are accessible by PCOS women.

Partner with responsible companies committed to helping women with PCOS.

Collect a national database of GPs, OBGYNs and Alternative Medicine Professionals.

Increase support for academic and professional research into PCOS.

Increase the membership to 5,000.

All women with PCOS have access to fast, appropriate care, support and treatment.

PRIORITIES

POSAA has a number of priorities. These priorities are detailed below:

Awareness

Raising awareness of the prevalence and seriousness of PCOS with medical professionals, government and the media.

Education

Develop and implement nationwide

* Guidelines for PCOS diagnosis for all doctors

* Guidelines for PCOS treatment

Develop healthier individuals and communities through promoting evidence based strategies to manage and maintain optimum health.

Support

Support and empower women with PCOS. Challenge negative stereotypes surrounding the symptoms of PCOS

Research

Lobby for increased funding for and greater priority given to PCOS research across the spectrum of the disease with the ultimate aim of one day finding a cure.
